Let Us Get to Know More About Our Past President, Mary Ann Floresca, RHIA, CCS, CPHQ

Question – What is your current HIM role?
Answer: HIM Administrator at Kona Community Hospital.

Question – What drew you to working in the HIM field?
Answer: After high school, I researched careers in the healthcare field and decided to pursue a degree in Health Information Technology (HIT) because of the many different roles. I earned an associate degree in HIT and started my career working at an acute care hospital in northern California as a coder.

Question – What value do you find in AHIMA and HIMAH membership?
Answer: Being a member of AHIMA and HIMAH helped me maintain my credentials because of such overwhelming access to education, networking with other professionals, vendors and available resources needed to comply with state and federal requirements.

Question – What do you like to do in your spare time?
Answer: Gardening, hiking, and enjoying the beach.

Question – What is your favorite location in Hawaii?
Answer: Kamuela on the Big Island. It has the most beautiful views of the mountains and vast lands.

Question – What is your favorite place to go on vacation?
Answer: Lake Tahoe – love hiking on the trails, enjoying the beautiful views, going to the casinos, eating at different restaurants, and hanging out by the lake.

Question – As you are leaving the HIMAH board, what are you the proudest of that happened during your time on the board?
Answer: The COVID-19 pandemic gave us a challenge during our 2020 annual conference. We had everything set up at the Ala Moana Hotel, but the pandemic forced us to convert to a virtual conference. This took a lot of our time and energy planning a different venue, but HIMAH board worked hard and pulled it together. We were able to continue our conference virtually and it turned out very successful. I’m also proud to have worked with such an array of talented professionals on the board. I will always cherish the time and energy we all had together making decisions for our members.
